What this site is
howengineswork.com is an educational site about engines, cars, aircraft and the physics behind them. We work hard to keep every claim honest and every simulation faithful to real physics, but content is provided as-is, without warranty. It is written to teach intuition — do not use it as a substitute for professional engineering, maintenance or safety advice.
Accounts
Accounts are free, optional, and exist only to save your Academy progress. Keep access to your e-mail address — it is your only key (there are no passwords). You can delete your account, and everything stored with it, at any time from your account page. We may remove accounts that abuse the service.
Fair use of the service
Please don’t hammer our endpoints with automated traffic, attempt to access other people’s accounts, or probe the service for vulnerabilities (if you find one honestly, we’d genuinely love an e-mail instead). Rate limits protect everyone’s inboxes and our free-tier bills; tripping them pauses requests for a few minutes.

Lessons, demos, diagrams and articles are © How Engines Work. Personal and classroom use is warmly welcomed — share links, screenshot diagrams for your homework, embed demos where the site offers embedding. Please don’t republish substantial parts of the site wholesale. Blog posts may include externally-authored content credited to their sources.
The boring but honest bits
Features may change, pause or be retired as the site evolves (we keep old things reachable where we can). To the fullest extent the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us — which is nothing, because the site is free.
